Totally forgot about the presidential race with which I was unhealthily consumed three weeks ago. What a trip.

My heart breaks for New York. They have assembled refrigerated trucks outside some medical facilities. For bodies. I cannot understand how anybody continues to deny what is surely coming to a community near them. Cuomo is bomb.

Observation: most everybody is observing the social distance. Or at least trying. As you pass people on the sidewalk or in the store, one person will step aside or stop and wait to maintain the space.

Last night I saw the viral video of a gal who went to the bathroom while on a zoom call for work, not realizing her video was still on. The fellow worker who preserved and posted that footage is a super dick. Ultimately, the internet agreed and made a hero out of “Jennifer” – the peeing colleague. As it should be.

You know how we’re home all day, every day right now? During the 30 minutes Jeff and I went for a jog, our wine delivery came and we couldn’t sign for it. It’s kind of amazing really. At least wine delivery is considered “essential,” apparently.

Just got my calendar notification for NPR’s How I Built This – a live podcast at Benaroya Hall with Sub Pop’s Bruce Pavitt and Jonathan Poneman. That would’ve been awesome.

It’s very weird how we are all experiencing this together, yet our experiences our SO different. A healthcare worker friend on the east coast is working crazy hours and stripping down to her undies before entering her house to shower and decontaminate. I’m sure her daily experiences are traumatizing. And of course others find themselves suddenly unemployed as we shelter-in-place. How terrifying. And a bunch of other people might still be working, but business is bleak. So scary. Meanwhile, my husband and I are hot tubbin’ every night because the calendar is right cleared up. I feel terribly guilty about this. And we randomly work in industries that will likely be unaffected relative to others. Total fluke. So yeah, we are in this together, but so inequitably.

A wise friend sent this to me today from some other wise person named Maria Broom. I love it:

Excerpt from White Eagle, Hopi indigenous…
“This moment humanity is going through can be seen as a portal and as a hole. If they consume the news 24 hours a day, nervous, with little energy and pessimism, they will fall into the hole. But if you look at yourself, rethink life and death, take care of yourself and others, you will cross the portal.
Do not lose the spiritual dimension of this crisis. Learn from Indigenous and African people about resistance. Don’t feel guilty about being happy during this difficult time. You don’t help at all by being sad and without energy. It is through joy that one resists. Also, when the storm passes, you need to be well and strong. You will be very important in the reconstruction of this new world. Take care of your home, take care of your body.”

Finally, Tiger King. The internet says we all need to be watching it.
