The president gave an amazing speech of hope tonight. April Fools!
Love in the Time of Pandemic
When you go out and see the empty streets, the empty stadiums, the empty train platforms, don’t say to yourself, “My God, it looks like the end of the world.”
What you’re seeing is love in action.
What you’re seeing, in that negative space, is how much we do care for each other, for our grandparents, for our immuno-compromised brothers and sisters, for people we will never meet.
People will lose jobs over this. Some will lose their businesses. And some will lose their lives.
All the more reason to take a moment, when you’re out on your walk, on your way to the store, or just watching the news, to look into the emptiness and marvel at all that love.
Let it fill you and sustain you. It isn’t the end of the world. It’s the most remarkable act of global solidarity we may ever witness.
It is the reason the world will go on.
— Bill Gates
It is pretty extraordinary that the entire world is having a collective experience. I would not even have watched a movie with this implausible plot. We, all of humanity, will learn lessons together and come out the other side… better? Different, at least. We’re so easily distracted, fickle, oblivious. What if we’re so dumb, we miss this opportunity to become amazing?? Oh my. That might be my greatest fear. If watching Trump loyalists defend or overlook his every lie is any indication, we can’t expect monumental cultural transformation.
Just got an email that UCLA has joined the schools who will not require SAT or ACT scores for fall applications. This is crazy – not surprising – but presents a whole new ball game for college entrance tactics.
Remember the ignorant congressman from the CA red belt? He’s at it again with his cornona-denier antics. He thinks we should all be back to work in the next “week to two weeks.” Literally, he said that TODAY. Meanwhile, his county is just now experiencing their first COVID-19 deaths. And an outbreak in a nursing home. What will it take for him to understand science? I hope it’s not the death of a loved one.
